Laura Regan was born in Canada and raised in the San Francisco bay area and is nationally known for her rich, contemporary style of paintings. Laura studied art at the College of San Mateo and Graphic Design at the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore. Since 1975 Laura has enjoyed painting exotic flora and fauna in oils, acrylics and gouache. She has become widely known for her rich, contemporary style of paintings. Her original paintings have been reproduced on greeting cards jig-saw puzzles, blankets, ornaments, school supplies, mouse mats, calendars, personal checks, and many other licensed items. Laura's artwork has been used to raise funds for the San Francisco Zoo, the World Wildlife Fund, the Kenya Wildlife Foundation, the International Snow Leopard Trust, the San Francisco Symphony (Deck the Halls), Pediatric Cancer Research, and CRES (Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species) at the San Diego Zoo among many other organizations. In 1995 she was presented with Notre Dame’s Sister Julie Billiart, Woman of Vision award. Her works are included in many collections including those of tennis star Martina Navratilova and opera singer, Marilyn Horne. She was also commissioned to create two large paintings for the lobby of the Mirage Casino in Las Vegas. In 1990 Laura Regan was greatly influenced by a photographic safari to Africa. While capturing the wondrous beauty she observed through her camera lens, she decided that in future paintings she would try to communicate a sense of excitement, curiosity and adventure while also educating. She chose children's book illustrating as a way to help teach future generations about the wonders of our planet. Laura has had the privilege of working with many famous children's authors, including Jane Yolen, Jean Marzollo and Kay Winters.
